It will be a double celebration for the traditional ruler of Ogbunike community, HRH Igwe John Ositadimma Umenyiora (Ezedioramma 1 of Ogbunike), as he marks his 75th birthday and 40 years on the throne of Ogbunike as king this year.
Billed for December 26, 2016, at the Igwe’s Palace in Ogbunike, Oyi LGA, Anambra State, the celebration will form part of his 2016 Ofala Festival, which will see the Royal Father confer chieftaincy titles on some deserving individuals, who have in one way or the other contributed to the growth and development of Ogbunike.
As usual, the Ofala festival, which will attract guests from different parts of the country, will feature masquerade displays and dance performances by groups that will be on hand to entertain visitors.
Already, a planning committee headed by Chief Anene C. Osadebe (Akagbologu Ogbunike), who is also Secretary Igwe-in-Council/Inner Cabinet, has been put in place to help organise the event and make it a memorable one.
Meanwhile, as part of the celebration, Igwe Umenyiora has resolved to get young people of the community involved in the celebration with an inter village football competition, a quiz competition for secondary school students and a special party for Ogbunike children. To be sponsored by HRH, the wining football team will get a special trophy and cash prize, while top three winners in the quiz competition will get prizes during the Ofala Festival.
To celebrate the Royal Father, the Central Working Committee of the Ogbunike Cave carnival (OCC) has resolved to stage this year’s carnival in honour of Igwe Umenyiora.
