The Anambra State Police Command has debunked rumours that Fulani herdsmen recently invaded Ogbunike community in Oyi Local Government Area.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr Ali Okechukwu, stated this during an interview with ABS correspondent, Gab Alokwe in Awka.
Mr Okechukwu explained that it was a group of Hausa Fulani men contacted to help in off-loading a truck carrying beer, that scared residents of Osile village Ogbunike who raised alarm.
Mr Okechukwu who appreciated the security consciousness of the people, however urged them to verify any information before disseminating such to avoid inciting violence.
He assured Ndi Anambra that the Nigerian Police is working to ensure the sustenance of the peace and security already enthroned in the state by the Obiano administration, even as he commended the Governor for establishing a committee saddled with the responsibility of ensuring peaceful co-existence of the people of the state and the herdsmen.
Mr Okechukwu called on residents of the state to always report suspicious movements to security agencies for prompt action.
