As guests and contestants gear up for this year’s Ada Ogbunike Beauty Pageant, the Central Working Committee for the Ogbunike Cave Carnival has finally unveiled judges for the coming edition.
According to the Project Manager for the Carnival Adaeze Uzodoh, the judges will entirely be responsible for selecting the winner during the contest billed for January 1, 2017 at the Ogbunike Town Hall, Ogbunike, Oyi LGA, Anmbra State. The list include broadcaster and filmmaker Lorenzo Menakaya, who will serve as head judge; Vanessa Obioha, a life and style journalist with Thisday Newspaper and Ubong Ekanem, the Creative Director/CEO Kardynal Kommunikationz, Uyo.
While Menakaya and Ekanem will be returning for the second time as judges on this platform, this will be Obioha’s first time on the team.
“We are glad to announce that Menakaya and Ekanem will be making a return to Ada Ogbunike as judges. Everybody, who attended the event last year, would testify that they did a fantastic job in choosing the winners; even the crowd agreed with them. However, this year, we’ve decided to bring in Miss Obioha due to hare wealth of experience in the field, having reported the sector for years. So, with these capable judges, we are ready to go,” Uzodoh said.
A broadcaster by profession, Lorenzo Menakaya is one of the leading voices in radio broadcasting in the eastern part of the country, having worked for media organisations such as Dream FM Enugu and Lion FM, Nsukka. Aside from hosting major events including Dare To Dream show, he has trained with leading media organisations such as the BBC.
In the business of showbiz reporting in Nigeria, Vanessa Obioha is no stranger, having reported the beat for Thisday Newspapers for years now. No doubt, her wealth of experience in covering pageantries will definitely be of great advantage to Ada Ogbunike contestants.
On his part, Ubong Ekanem is a leading light in Uyo, Akwa Ibo State capital. Over the years, he has been responsible for organisaing major events in the area, including Uyo Model Search and a couple of other event, which co-hosted with individuals and groups.
Organised as part of the Ogbunike Cave Carnival (OCC), a three-day celebration centered on our natural heritage, the famous Ogbunike Cave, the essence Ada Ogbunike is to promote the beauty and creativity of our young women. We cannot talk about nature without talking about women, hence the decision to celebrate our females also known as the ADAs. At the event, contestants will appear in three different attires and will be judged based on their performance on the day. The evening, which will start with a special red carpet reception, will be spiced with music and comedy, while the highpoint will be the crowning of the Queen.
Billed to open on December 30, 2016 with a one-day Five –Aside Football Tournament, the day two of the event on December 31 will feature Ogbunikewalk4life (Street Carnival) and a live music concert at the Ogbunike Town Hall involving homegrown talents and guest artistes. The celebration will end on January 1, 2017, with the Ada Ogbunike Beauty Pageant.
